Chitosan Industrial Grade

Chitosan is an Off-white powder, flavorless semi-transparent and amorphous solid. Soluble in acid, but insoluble in alkali and water or in ordinary organic solvent. Decomposed at 185°C.Chitosan is produced commercially by deacetylation of chitin by treating crabs and shrimp with the alkali sodium hydroxide it is a kind of unique fat-absorbing dietary fiber.

Viscosity: 100-800mpa.s (at 20°C with 1°C chitosan in 1°C acetic acid.)

1. Chitosan in the edible film industry: the edible film and coating extend the self-life for fresh or frozen foods; the chitosan film can protect the food from moisture and oxidants and improve the quality
2. Chitosan for clarification and deacidification of fruit juices (fining agent): Chitosan is a good clarifying agent for grape fruit juice either with or without pectinase treatment. By adding chitosan to fruit juice, chitosan can decrease the amount of citric acid, tartaric acid, l-malic acid, oxalic acid and ascorbic acid etc.
3. Recovery of solid materials from food processing wastes and water: Chitosan, with its partial positive charge, it can effectively function as a poly cationic coagulant in wastewater treatment Chitosan as a coagulating agent. Chitosan reduced the suspended solids of various food processing wastes.
