Description
Sodium gluconate is a chelating agent (Chelator). Its feature is its excellent chelating ability, especially in alkaline and concentrated alkaline solutions, it forms stable chelates with calcium, iron, copper, aluminum and other heavy metals. In this regard, it surpasses all Other chelating agents such as EDTA, NTA and related compounds.
When used in soaps and other personal care products, it has two benefits - it extends the shelf life of soap by chelating (binding) certain metals that can cause DOS (the dreaded orange spots, also known as rancidity). It also reduces the amount of sticky soap scum that forms when using alkaline soaps in hard water.
How much sodium gluconate is typically used in soap?
In the process of commercial soap production, 0.5%-1% (weight) of powdered sodium gluconate can be added according to different raw materials and formulas. For example, 5 to 10 grams of sodium gluconate powder per 1000 grams of total batch weight (weight of oil + weight of water + weight of base). Others such as shampoo and lotion can also refer to this addition amount.
How to use sodium gluconate
Mix sodium gluconate powder or solution into any water-based liquid such as lye, extra water, aloe vera, beer, vinegar, milk, etc.
